Press Release June 28, 2023: Vince Swagerty Interim Superintendent

On Thursday, June 22nd, North Bend School District Board of Directors met in a special session and approved a one-year interim superintendent contract with Vince Swagerty. This contract culminates the hiring process to replace former superintendent Kevin Bogatin.

Swagerty is no stranger to North Bend, having served two years as the North Bend Middle School principal from 2007 through 2009. Swagerty started his career on the southern Oregon coast in 1986 as a teacher in the Port Orford-Langlois School District and from 2015 through 2018 he held the position of Reedsport Community Charter School principal.

This is Swagerty’s third superintendency. He has led the Mitchell School District in eastern Oregon for the last five years where he developed a strong climate and culture with students and staff. Swagerty’s first superintendent position was in the small Douglas County town of Camas Valley from 2004 through 2007.

“I am really looking forward to working with an amazing team of educational professionals to move the dial for North Bend students,” said Swagerty. “I loved my time here as the principal of the middle school and my wife Valerie and I are excited to move back to North Bend and become a part of the community once again.”

Swagerty’s contract begins July 1st and ends on June 30th, 2024. The contract also opens the door for Swagerty to continue as superintendent should the school board choose to offer him a permanent contract during this school year.
